Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has picked up an ankle injury while on international duty with Brazil.
The 31-year-old started for the Seleçao in their 1-1 draw with Venezuela on Friday, but was substituted in the 79th minute.
After the game Brazil boss Fernando Diniz confirmed that the former Real Madrid star was taken off after picking up a knock in the second half.
“As there was a stop (in play), I decided to make the three substitutions,” Diniz told Globo Esporte. “We had a lot of control when they came on. Casemiro asked to come off due to a blow to his ankle.”
Man United say that the “severity of the problem is unclear,” adding: “It remains to be seen whether the United man will feature in Brazil’s second match of the break, against Facundo Pellistri’s Uruguay on Wednesday morning.”
This is the latest in a long list of injuries Man United have incurred this season. Six first-team players have been sidelined through injury less than two months into the 2023/24 campaign.
The club are reportedly launching an investigation to establish why the team has so many players on the treatment table, according to the Daily Mail.
