A furious Sean Dyche complained that Liverpool should have had a man sent off after his Everton side lost 2-0 at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
It was the Toffees who were down a man for much of the game after Ashley Young received a second booking in the 37th minute.
The Everton boss switched to a back five at halftime, which managed to hold off the Reds until Mo Salah scored from the spot in the 75th minute. The Egyptian winger sealed the win with his second goal in injury time.
Although Dyche was pleased with how his side defended, he was unhappy to see referee Craig Pawson award a penalty after Michael Keane was penalised for handball in the box.
“They are a good side, we know that, but we defended very well. Red card is touch and go, the second one is a yellow,” he told TNT Sports.
“The penalty changes the game and it’s difficult after that. I don’t like the modern rule. I liked it when you had to make a deliberate act.”
Liverpool were lucky not to be down a man themselves in the second half when Ibrahima Konate, who was already on a booking, took down Beto as the Everton striker was about to race clear into the opposition half.
When asked why a second yellow wasn’t shown to the Frenchman, Dyche said: “I have no clue. I asked the referee, he felt it wasn’t a bookable offence. I don’t know what it is then. (Jurgen) Klopp couldn’t wait to get him off. He knows and we know.”
Dyche continued: “I got a yellow card! I don’t know what for. For gesticulating what everyone in the stadium is thinking. I’ve seen the footage back. In a second, the ref is going no chance. I’d be amazed if anyone out there thinks it wasn’t a yellow.”
