Virgil van Dijk heaped praise on Mo Salah after the forward shot Liverpool to victory over Everton at Anfield on Saturday.
The Egyptian scored from the penalty spot in 75th minute after Michael Keane handled the ball in the box. He followed that up with a second goal in injury time after being set up by Darwin Nunez.
When asked about Salah stepping up to deliver the victory in the Merseyside Derby, Van Dijk told TNT Sports: “Great players do.”
The Dutchman added: “This season, or towards end of last season, he missed a couple of penalties, but to step up and deliver is something we need. We hope we can build on this now.
“Consistency is the most difficult thing in football, to do it each and every game is hard. (Vitaliy) Mykolenko did well but Salah stepped up. We’re very pleased and very pleased for him.”
The victory briefly saw Liverpool go top of the Premier League table, before Manchester City’s win over Brighton saw them jump into first place later that afternoon.
