Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has said eyes worldwide will be on this weekend’s Manchester Derby at Old Trafford.
United host Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday in the latest instalment of their city rivalry. The Red Devils have endured a disappointing recent record in the fixture, with four defeats in the last five meetings, including last season’s FA Cup final.
However, Ten Hag’s team arrive into the game on a three-match winning run and the Dutchman has demanded a performance from his team in a ‘huge’ game.
“We are a hard team to beat; we find a way to win. We are going in the right direction. It is a match that is so huge because it is Manchester, internal, but all eyes will on this game worldwide,” he said at his pre-match press conference.
United have endured a challenging start to the campaign and are eighth in the Premier League table, but Ten Hag believes his team are moving in the ‘right direction’.
“We are going in the right direction with some way to go. I see positives and negatives.
“We are not consistently at the level we can be in possession. Pressing, we are quite good, we have the most ball regains in the Premier League. There you see our organisation. But we don’t take the benefit in the attacking transitional moments; we should be because we have the ability in the team.”This has to progress and games will be easier.”
Ten Hag provided an update on the fitness of his squad and confirmed Casemiro is a doubt for the derby clash.
“Aaron [Wan Bissaka] was training, Casemiro has a race against the clock.”
