Alisson hails Diaz ‘inner strength’ after late Liverpool leveller

Alisson has hailed the ‘inner strength’ of Liverpool teammate Luis Diaz after the winger’s late equaliser against Luton.

Diaz returned to the Liverpool squad for the 1-1 draw at Luton on Sunday despite the ongoing issues surrounding the 26-year-old’s family, with the Colombian’s father remaining missing after being kidnapped in his homeland last week.

Diaz’s father, Luis Manuel Diaz, and his wife were seized at gunpoint on October 28, though the latter was left behind as the kidnappers fled with her husband as police closed in.

Despite that situation, Diaz returned to the Liverpool squad at Luton and came off the bench to score a late equaliser at Kenilworth Road. Alisson was full of praise for the strength his teammate showed in returning to the pitch with a goal, as the Reds rescued a late point.

“It says a lot about his character and inner strength. I can’t imagine what he’s going through,” Alisson said to Sky Sports.

“We’re supporting him and feeling his pain but for him it’s a different level. Football can bring joy to someone who is struggling. Football is bringing joy to Luis at this moment.

“He scored a fantastic goal for us which was really important.

“When you’re on the pitch you focus on the job. He did it for us.”
