Cole Palmer ‘personality’ praised ahead of Man City reunion

Mauricio Pochettino has hailed the personality shown by Cole Palmer since signing for Chelsea, as the forward prepares to face former club Manchester City for the first time.

Palmer decided to leave the treble winners last summer in search of more regular first-team football and has flourished as part of Pochettino’s developing side at Stamford Bridge.

The 21-year-old has scored three goals and laid on two assists in five Premier League starts for the Blues, justifying Chelsea’s investment in his potential.

Palmer’s form saw him name-checked by Gareth Southgate this week with the Chelsea star on the radar of the senior England team, having impressed as the u-21 side won the European Championship last summer.

He will come face to face with former side Manchester City in the Premier League this weekend and, ahead of the clash, Pochettino has praised his adaptation at Chelsea.

“He is a really clever guy that has had to adapt quickly,” Pochettino said at his pre-match press conference.

“We are building the team at the minute and he showed character and personality to take the move.

“We are so happy with him but I think he will improve. It is a special chance for him to play his former team-mates.”
