West Ham, Fulham and Crystal Palace are among the clubs considering a move to bring former Chelsea striker Timo Werner back to the Premier League.
Werner has started just two league fixtures after falling out of favour at RB Leipzig this season and a a number of Premier League clubs are monitoring his situation at the Red Bull Arena.
Werner re-signed for Leipzig after an underwhelming spell at Chelsea, where the forward scored just 10 goals in 56 league appearances after a £47.5m arrival from Leipzig. The German had established himself as one of the Bundesliga’s best before his move to the Premier League, having scored a club-record 95 goals in 159 games for Leipzig in all competitions.
Leipzig re-signed Werner in a deal worth £25.3m in 2022 and he scored 16 goals in all competitions during a productive first season back in Germany. However, the summer arrivals of Lois Openda, Benjamin Sesko and Xavi Simons have increased competition for a place in the Leipzig side and Werner has featured for just 204 minutes in the Bundesliga this season.
90min are reporting that West Ham, Fulham and Palace are all considering a loan approach for Werner, who will be keen to secure regular minutes and his place in the Germany squad for next summer’s European Championship.
Speaking on Werner’s future, Leipzig sporting director Rouven Schroder said: “Timo Werner is a part of a team that has to face competition. He’s going through a difficult phase, we support him. It’s not always all sunshine and roses.
“We will have players who have something else in mind. We will face that. Quite openly, very clearly. If someone has the idea that they want to do something different, then we will deal with it.”
Werner – who won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021 – has scored 24 goals in 57 appearances for Germany at international level.
