Porto chairman hints at exit for PL target Taremi

Porto chairman Pinto da Costa has hinted that he expects forward Mehdi Taremi to leave the club when his contract expires next summer.

Taremi’s current deal expires at the end of the season and a number of clubs are said to hold an interest in signing the Iran international, who has scored 83 goals in 163 appearances for the Portuguese side in all competitions.

Manchester United and Wolves have been linked with the 31-year-old in January, while both Milan clubs and several sides in the Saudi Pro League are also said to be interested in a potential deal.

Da Costa has revealed that Porto turned down a ‘ridiculous proposal’ from AC Milan last summer, but suggested his side will find it difficult to retain Taremi given free agency offers from rival clubs.

Taremi will be free to negotiate with foreign sides from January and Da Costa said the forward has already received salary proposals worth up to €10m per season – a figure he says Porto will find ‘impossible to match’.

“He has received €10m per year salary offers from other clubs… it’s impossible to match that,” Da Costa said, as per Fabrizio Romano.

“AC Milan came up last summer with ridiculous proposals that weren’t even worth talking about”.
