Man United plan major clear-out with 10 players set to leave

Manchester United are preparing for a huge clear-out as Erik ten Hag looks to overhaul his underperforming squad.

United have endured a difficult start to the new season and have lost nine of their opening 18 games in all competitions, a run of poor form which leaves the Red Devils sixth in the Premier League table and bottom of their Champions League group.

Ten Hag has spent more than £400m on new additions across three transfer windows in charge, but the Dutchman remains keen to accelerate his rebuild of the side and a focus will be placed on outgoings in January and next summer.

The Manchester Evening News are reporting that up to 10 players could depart, with Jadon Sancho among the most high-profile after being exiled this season. Sancho is training away from the main group after a public fallout with Ten Hag and will be made available for transfer in January, as will Donny van de Beek, who has endured a nightmare three-and-a-half year spell at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag wants to sign a new centre-back, which could lead to departures in defence. United accepted an offer for Harry Maguire from West Ham last summer, while Victor Lindelof’s contract expires in 2025. Raphael Varane, meanwhile, has fallen out of favour in recent weeks.

Elsewhere, decisions will be made on Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, who both turn 32 in February, while Anthony Martial’s deal is not expected to be renewed following the forward’s underwhelming performances in recent campaigns.

Jonny Evans, Brandon Williams, Tom Heaton and Alvaro Fernandez could all leave, while Sofyan Amrabat’s form will need to improve if his loan spell from Fiorentina is to be made permanent.
