Erik ten Hag has praised Kobbie Mainoo and says the Manchester United midfielder ‘makes the right decisions’.
Mainoo impressed on his first Premier League start as the Red Devils won 3-0 at Everton last weekend, before coming on as a substitute during the Champions League draw at Galatasaray in midweek.
The Stockport-born 18-year-old has earned praise for his mature performances in recent fixtures and Ten Hag has said Mainoo is ready to be called upon once again, as United travel to face Newcastle this weekend.
“If he’s ready or not (fit), he showed on Sunday he was ready,” Ten Hag said at his pre-match press conference.
“We have to manage three games in six days to get the best results from all the games. We have more than 11 players, we have good options there. Sofyan Amrabat showed he was playing a good game. We have to manage the load of the players and it’s about freshness as well.”
On what Mainoo has done to impress him: “His scanning, it looks like he always has time because he is scanning, he is running free, he is scanning to see the options and make the right decisions. [He] can delay, can speed up, he makes the right decisions.”
