Trent Alexander-Arnold scored a late winner as Liverpool came from behind to beat Fulham 4-3 in a thriller at Anfield.
Liverpool were losing 3-2 as the game entered the 87th minute of an enthralling encounter, which had seen Fulham fight back to stun the home side.
Alexander-Arnold was involved in the opener, as his free-kick crashed in off the woodwork and Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno for an own goal, but Harry Wilson equalised against his former side for the Cottagers.
Alexis Mac Allister’s stunning strike from distance restored the Reds’ advantage, but the visitors bounced back again to equalise before half-time through Kenny Tete.
Bobby Decordova-Reid’s 80th minute header looked set to earn Fulham a shock win, but Liverpool struck twice in a matter of seconds to turn defeat into victory.
Wataru Endo levelled the game at 3-3, before Alexander-Arnold volleyed home his second of the game to seal three points for Jurgen Klopp’s side. Klopp reflected on a chaotic clash and admitted he was relieved to come away with a win.
“Feeling after the game is exceptional. During the game, slightly different in moments,” Klopp said post-match, as per the Liverpool Echo.
“We changed system a couple of times and we worked out. That’s not always the case. Outstanding experience. I don’t think anyone before the game thought it would be a game you’d never forget. You’re welcome.
“I never saw a game with so many worldies. Macca’s been doing it in training. Trent’s free-kick was unbelievable. Wataru was so important. He was really good. Then Trent makes it a brace. I didn’t actually see it go in.”
Liverpool return to Premier League action with a trip to face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Wednesday evening.
