De Gea and Ramsdale options for Newcastle in January

David de Gea and Aaron Ramsdale are options for Newcastle ahead of the January transfer window, after goalkeeper Nick Pope was ruled out with a dislocated shoulder.

Pope is facing a significant spell on the sidelines after sustaining a shoulder issue in the 1-0 win over Manchester United at the weekend, with Martin Dúbravka introduced as his replacement at St James’ Park.

With the 31-year-old set for a considerable absence, Newcastle could look to sign a goalkeeper when the transfer window opens next month.

De Gea remains a free agent after leaving Manchester United last summer and would reportedly be open to a move to the Magpies, according to The Telegraph. The Spaniard has been assessing his options since ending a 12-year stay at Old Trafford.

talkSPORT have revealed that Aaron Ramsdale is also under consideration. Ramsdale has lost his position as first-choice goalkeeper at Arsenal following the summer arrival of David Raya and could be open to an exit in search of regular minutes.

The 25-year-old is valued at around £50m at Arsenal, a figure which would put him beyond reach of Newcastle in January, but a loan exit could be agreed as Ramsdale looks to earn his place in the England squad for next summer’s European Championship.
