Maignan stalling on Milan deal amid Man United and Chelsea interest

Mike Maignan is stalling on signing a new contract at AC Milan amid reported interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.

The France international has held talks with Milan over a new contract at the San Siro, but the Italian side have so far failed to meet the goalkeeper’s demands of a salary in excess of €8m per season.

Maignan has been a key figure for the Rossoneri since signing from Lille, with the 28-year-old named as Serie A’s Best Goalkeeper after winning the title with Milan in 2021/22.

Maignan has been included in the divisional Team of the Season in each of his two campaigns with Milan, who are aware of interest from European rivals.

According to Italian publication Corriere della Sera, Bayern Munich are leading the race to sign Maignan as the German champions look for a long-term replacement for Manuel Neuer, though face competition from the Premier League.

Andre Onana’s unconvincing start at Manchester United has meant the Red Devils continue to assess goalkeeping options, with the Cameroon international having made a series of high-profile mistakes since arriving from Inter Milan last summer.

Chelsea’s summer signing, Robert Sanchez, has also failed to convince that he can be the club’s number one and the West Londoners are watching Maignan’s situation attentively.

Milan value their number one at around €100m (£85.6m), which would represent a new world-record fee for a goalkeeper.
