Son Heung-min called Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat to West Ham ‘unacceptable’ after the North Londoners surrendered another lead to lose to their London rivals.
Spurs are without a win in five Premier League games, having led on each occasion. Their latest defeat saw Cristian Romero open the scoring for Ange Postecoglou’s side, but West Ham turned the game around after the break through goals from Jarrod Bowen and James Ward-Prowse.
Spurs have now lost more points from winning positions (16) than any other side in the Premier League and have dropped from first to fifth amid their winless run.
“[Whether we] deserved better or not means nothing – we lost the game. It is unacceptable,” Son told Amazon Prime.
“As players [we] should take responsibility. Attacking players should [especially] feel responsibility because we had chances to kill the game.”
Ange Postecoglou echoed his captain’s feelings and said Spurs let themselves down after failing to win the game.
“If you dominate a game of football you have to turn it into something meaningful and we didn’t,” Postecoglou reflected to BBC Match of the Day.
“We let ourselves down when we should have won the games [we have taken the lead in] comfortably.
“The challenges are there. It is no good feeling sorry for ourselves. We still have a long way to go as a team and today shows that.
“In a game of football if you don’t put those chances away teams are always going to have the opportunity to punish you. In both boxes we were nowhere near where we need to be.”
