Liverpool match-winner Harvey Elliott says the club’s sights are set firmly on winning the Premier League title this year.
The Reds reached the summit of the table on Saturday afternoon after coming from behind to beat Crystal Palace 2-1 late on at Selhurst Park.
Jean-Philippe Mateta put the home side in front just before the hour mark when he converted from the penalty, but the Eagles were reduced to ten men after Jordan Ayew received a second booking.
Salah equalised in the 76th minute with his 150th goal in the Premier League and 200th overall for the Reds, before providing the assist for the winning goal, laying it on for impact substitute Harvey Elliott to score with a wonderful finish in added time.
“It’s always a great feeling to score, especially to win the game too,” Elliott told TNT Sports. “Selhurst Park is a hard place to come. We don’t give up until the final whistle.”
Liverpool have gained 18 points from losing positions this season, leading many to suggest the club have what it takes to mount a title challenge after leapfrogging Arsenal in the standings. “We’re going in the right direction,” Elliott said.
“There’s a lot of the season left. We need to make sure we keep getting the three points and if we’re contenders at the end of the season then let’s go for it.
“The aim is to win the Premier League.”
On Mohamed Salah’s influence, the youngster he revealed: “My finish today just sums up what I’ve learned off him. If I spoke about the influence he’s had on me then everyone would get bored!”
Liverpool are now one point ahead of the Gunners and seven ahead of reigning champions Manchester City, with both sides yet to play this weekend.
