Premier League trio set to battle for Valencia goalkeeper

Manchester United, Newcastle and Tottenham are reportedly set to battle it out to sign Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Mamardashvili is viewed as one of Valencia’s most saleable assets as the club look to combat financial issues, with a host of Premier League clubs keen to capitalise and sign the Georgian goalkeeper.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Manchester United, Newcastle and Spurs are all admirers, with the former continuing to assess goalkeeping options amid Andre Onana’s unconvincing form at Old Trafford.

The Cameroon international has made a series of high-profile mistakes since arriving from Inter Milan during the summer, while the 27-year-old will depart next month to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Newcastle are another side with issues in goal with Nick Pope set to be sidelined for several months. The England goalkeeper sustained a dislocated shoulder during the club’s 1-0 win over Manchester United last week and is facing a lengthy spell out.

Spurs have also been named as suitors, despite Guglielmo Vicario’s impressive start in the Premier League. Mamardashvili is reported to have a buy-out in his contract worth €100m, but reports last summer suggested Valencia would be prepared to do business at around €30m (£25.7m).
