Manchester United are prepared to outbid Bayern Munich in the race to sign Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo.
Araujo has been named as Bayern Munich’s top target as the club look to bring in defensive reinforcements, with the German champions prepared to spend around €100m (£85.7m) to sign the 24-year-old.
Bayern were keen to agree a deal for the January transfer window, but a move is expected to wait until the summer.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Araujo is keen to assess Barcelona’s progress this season before making a call on his future, with the centre-back’s decision to be based on the sporting project. Barcelona were crowned champions in Spain last season, but are currently fourth in the La Liga table, seven points behind surprise leaders Girona.
Bayern, meanwhile, are viewed as a club currently capable of challenging for the Champions League each season.
However, Bayern could face competition for Araujo from the Premier League. Manchester United are planning to sign at least one new centre-back across the upcoming transfer windows and are prepared to double the defender’s current wages.
Almost all of Europe’s leading clubs are said to have enquired into the Uruguayan’s demands and availability, with the exception of Real Madrid.
