Manchester United have no intention of extending Anthony Martial’s contract, with the forward set to leave the club.
Martial’s current deal expires at the end of the season and the Red Devils have an option to extend by a further year.
However, The Athletic are reporting that United have no intention of activating that clause and the Frenchman will depart as a free agent next summer, unless a suitable offer arrives during the January transfer window.
The 28-year-old has scored just 12 league goals across the last three-and-a-half seasons and spent time on loan at Sevilla during the 2021/22 campaign.
Martial has largely failed to live up to expectations for much of his Manchester United career, having signed from AS Monaco for an initial fee of £36m as a teenager.
The France international produced his best football during the 2019/20 season, as he scored 23 goals in all competitions and was named Manchester United’s Player of the Season.
However, his fortunes have declined since that campaign and the Red Devils are now prepared to lose the forward on a free transfer.
Martial was substituted early in the second half at the weekend, after an anonymous performance in the 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth. He has scored once in 12 appearances in all competitions this season.
