Liverpool boss Klopp braced for ‘brutal’ festive schedule

Jurgen Klopp is braced for the ‘brutal’ festive schedule as Liverpool’s fixture list hits congestion over the winter period.

Liverpool take on Manchester United in a huge Premier League clash on Sunday, the fifth of eight fixtures the Reds face in December alone.

Klopp’s side concluded their Europa League group stage campaign on Thursday, and face an EFL Cup quarter-final against West Ham next week, with Liverpool still competing on four fronts.

Ahead of this weekend’s showdown with their North West rivals at Anfield, Klopp discussed the ‘tough’ schedule his side must navigate.

The German said he hopes his side can ‘get through’ the period without added injuries, with Alexis Mac Allister, Thiago, Andy Robertson and Joel Matip among those already sidelined.

“[The schedule] is Thursday, Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday, Tuesday. It’s so tough,” Klopp said at his pre-match press conference.

“Then it’s the 26th and we have a few days between Burnley and Newcastle until 1 January. But it’s brutal. We have to get through this.

“We have already our injuries and we will see who is available for all the games, but we need them all pretty much to get through. It’s really tough but it’s tough for all the teams.

“It is crucial for all of us but we just have to make sure we try to always find a way to get into the next game and find a way to win it.”
