Klopp calls for Anfield atmosphere ahead of Man United clash

Jurgen Klopp has said Liverpool will ‘need’ the Anfield atmosphere to be at its best ahead of Manchester United’s visit this weekend.

Liverpool face off against their fierce rivals in the Premier League on Sunday, the first of three huge home games in succession in all competitions.

The Reds host West Ham in an EFL Cup quarter-final in midweek, before welcoming Arsenal to Merseyside on December 23.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Klopp has called on the Liverpool fans to provide his side with much needed support ahead of a crucial run of games in the club’s season.

“If we don’t have to travel it’s better and if we have Anfield it’s better as well. But we will need Anfield. We will need Anfield definitely because as I said it’s really tough.

“They are all big games. United and Arsenal are big games. West Ham in the [League Cup] quarter-final is a big game.

“Boxing Day (Away at Burnley) is a big game. There is no doubt about that. It’s better than if these four games were all away games, definitely. But it’s still a big task.”

Liverpool are top of the Premier League table after a comeback win at Crystal Palace last weekend. The Reds, who have lost just once in their opening 16 games, are a point clear of second-placed Arsenal.

Klopp’s side will be aiming to maintain a strong recent record against Manchester United. Liverpool are unbeaten in the last seven meetings at Anfield, while their last five Premier League encounters with the Red Devils have seen Klopp’s side score 21 goals.
