Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Christopher Nkunku could make his Chelsea debut against Sheffield United this weekend.
Nkunku is yet to make a competitive appearance for Chelsea after sustaining a knee injury during the club’s pre-season campaign, but has now returned to full first-team training, and is set to be included in the squad to face Sheffield United at Stamford Bridge.
The France international’s return represents a huge boost for Chelsea, after impressing during the West London side’s summer schedule. Nkunku scored 58 goals across his last two seasons for RB Leipzig and was the joint-leading scorer in the Bundesliga last season.
Speaking on the £52m summer signing at his pre-match press conference, Pochettino confirmed Nkunku is available for selection.
“Yes he can be involved. It’s very good news because he can be involved tomorrow and be in the squad and can start also to feel the competition, to feel the Premier League.
“It’s very good news for us and it’s time to be calm and quiet because we don’t want to put the pressure on him. he can now evolve but the way i see it its a big motivation for us to see a player that should be important for us to play his first game of the season.”
