Liverpool defender Kostas Tsimikas was taken to hospital with an injury after colliding with Jurgen Klopp on the sideline during Saturday’s draw with Arsenal.
The Greek international was muscled off the ball when competing with Bukayo Saka on the wing, but as he fell he hit the ground hard while knocking into the Reds manager.
Tsimikas was immediately taken out of the game and replaced by Joe Gomez in the 35th minute. Klopp confirmed that the player’s collarbone was “definitely broken” and will be “out for a long time”.
“Of course it affected me. I had no pain but thought maybe Kostas was going to be fine,” Klopp told Sky Sports after the final whistle.
“I would happily give my collarbone for him to be fit again. It is not cool when something like that happens in front of you and you are involved in that, I was not sure what even happened or if I fell on him. It is not nice to see.”
The injury means that Liverpool will be left without a natural left-back for the foreseeable future. Andy Robertson is currently recovering from a dislocated shoulder he sustained in October.
The Merseyside outfit earned a point from the pulsating contest after Mo Salah cancelled out Gabriel Magalhaes’ early goal. The result means they remain one point behind leaders Arsenal in the Premier League table.
“Absolutely we take confidence from the result,” Klopp said. “You have to take confidence from these results and performances against a top, top side. We did not play bad against Man City for example but it was not as good as today, and you have to take these things forward.”
