Ange Postecoglou says ‘nothing magical’ will happen for Spurs during the January transfer window, despite the club’s mounting injury problems.
Spurs are without a number of senior options at present after Cristian Romero sustained a hamstring issue this week, with the Argentina international joining regular defensive partner Micky van de Ven on the sidelines.
The North Londoners are without 10 first-team players, eight injured and two suspended, for their clash with in-form Bournemouth on Sunday.
Despite the need for reinforcements, Postecoglou has tempered expectations ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.
“We are where we are. The transfer window, nothing magical is going to happen in the January window. What we need to do is just keep building,” he said at his pre-match press conference.
“We’ve had one window with this team to change it around, to do things differently. The fact that we’re in the position we are is a credit to the players. For all the challenges we’ve had, we just kept ploughing forward and that’s what we’ll do.
“We’ll see what we can do in January but ultimately it’s about building a side that will get us to where we want to.”
Postecoglou is anticipating a difficult test against Bournemouth, who have won four consecutive games and lead the Premier League’s form table over the last 10 games.
“It will be a different challenge, obviously Bournemouth are in good form, they do play good football as well, they play football in terms of they want to play and get the ball down. It will be a good challenge for us.”
“He’s done a great job,” Postecoglou added on Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola.
“They didn’t have a great start and it would have been very easy, not just him but the whole club, to shy away from what they were trying to build, but they’ve stuck at it, and the results recently have been very, very promising. It’s credit to him and the football club that they’ve stuck to what the plan’s been.”
