Wolves in competitive race to sign Liverpool’s Carvalho

Wolves are in a competitive race to sign Liverpool midfielder Fabio Carvalho on loan this month.

Carvalho has returned to Liverpool after his loan spell at RB Leipzig was cut short this month, having struggled for regular game time since joining the Bundesliga side in the summer.

Liverpool are assessing options to send Carvalho out on loan for the second half of the campaign, but want assurances over his playing time after a frustrating six months in Germany.

A host of English clubs are interested in signing the 21-year-old, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that Wolves are prepared to give Carvalho a Premier League chance.

There is also significant interest in the attacking midfielder from the Championship, with Southampton, Leicester, Leeds and Hull all linked as the quartet look to improve their chances of promotion to the Premier League. Liverpool are set to make a decision on Carvalho’s future in the coming days.

Any deal will not contain an option to buy, with Liverpool viewing Carvalho as part of the club’s long-term future. The midfielder – who has represented England and Portugal at youth level – signed for the Reds in a £5.5m deal from Fulham in 2022.

Carvalho had been named in the PFA Team of the Year for the Championship in 2021/22, after scoring 10 goals and providing eight assists as Fulham won promotion to the top fligtht.
