Abramovich ‘convinced’ as Chelsea linked with re-signing Eden Hazard

Chelsea have been linked with a sensational reunion with former talisman Eden Hazard, with owner Roman Abramovich claimed to be ‘convinced’ that the forward can recapture his best form back at Stamford Bridge.

The Belgium international spent seven seasons in west London after joining from Lille in 2012, becoming one of the finest talents in the division and notably winning two Premier League titles and two Europa League’s in that time, before making the move to the Spanish capital for a reported initial fee of around €100m in 2019.

Since making that switch just over two years ago, however, the winger has failed to establish himself at the Bernabeu, with injury and fitness issues seeing his game time heavily restricted, scoring just five times in 51 games for the club in all competitions.

The return of Carlo Ancelotti to Madrid in the summer has seen Hazard handed an extended run in the starting XI, yet he’s struggled to showcase the type of form that catapulted him to becoming one of the world’s best players during his time in England.

His current woes have seen him repeatedly linked with a return to Chelsea in the near future, with Spanish outlet El Nacional, as per football.london, suggesting that the Blues have opened ‘informal talks’ over bringing him back to the Premier League.

The report suggests that the club are keen to rescue him from his current situation, with the player reportedly not happy in his new surroundings after enduring a difficult stint in Spain.

Owner Roman Abramovich could be one of the biggest proponents of the deal, with the report outlining that the Russian is ‘increasingly convinced’ that Hazard can get back to his best again should he return to the club.

There would of course be huge doubts over his fitness levels, however, with the 30-year-old having missed more games than he’s actually played during his time with Los Blancos, while he recently missed Belgium’s Nations League third-place playoff clash with Italy due to injury.
