Sancho aiming to ‘play football with a smile’ after completing Dortmund return

Jadon Sancho says he aims to ‘play football with a smile’ on his face after completing a loan return to Borussia Dortmund.

Sancho has joined the Bundesliga side on loan from Manchester United for the remainder of the campaign, following a miserable two-and-a-half seasons at Old Trafford.

The 23-year-old has struggled to make an impact since his £72.9m move to the Premier League side and has not made a first-team appearance for the Red Devils since August, following a public spat with manager Erik ten Hag.

The agreement will see Sancho spent the second half of the campaign at Dortmund, though no option to make the move permanent has been included. Dortmund will pay a loan fee of around €4m and cover part of Sancho’s salary.

Sancho returns to the club where he rose to prominence, recording 114 goals and assists across four seasons at the Westfalenstadion. The England international said re-signing for Dortmund felt like ‘coming home’ and outlined his ambition to enjoy his football once again in Germany.

“When I walked into the changing room today, it felt like ‘coming home’. I know the club inside out, I’ve always been very close to the fans here and I’ve never lost contact with the people in charge,” Sancho said, as per Dortmund’s official website.

“I can’t wait to see my team-mates again, get out on the pitch, play football with a smile on my face, get assists, score goals and help the club qualify for the Champions League.”
