Arsenal are interested in a deal to sign Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee, though any transfer may need to wait until the summer window.
Zirkzee’s performances this season have caught the attention of top clubs around Europe with Arsenal the latest side understood to be tracking the progress of the 22-year-old.
The Dutch forward has scored seven goals in 15 league appearances for Bologna this season, beginning to fulfil the potential first shown when making his debut for Bayern Munich as a teenager.
Zirkzee shone during a loan spell at Anderlecht last season to score 18 goals in all competitions, before signing for Bologna in a £7m deal in the summer and impressing in Serie A.
According to the Telegraph, the Serie A side would demand a fee of around £50m for Zirkzee this month, a figure that looks prohibitive for Arsenal after an investment of more than £200m in the squad last summer.
Arsenal’s interest comes with doubts over the long-term future of Eddie Nketiah, who has been linked with Crystal Palace, while Gabriel Jesus has scored just three times in the Premier League this season and has struggled with injuries.
Bayern Munich are understood to have inserted a buy-back clause in the deal that took Zirkzee to Italy last summer. Manchester United were also credited with interest in the Dutchman last month.
