Senior figures at Real Madrid believe the club should sign Victor Osimhen over Kylian Mbappe this summer.
Real Madrid have a long-standing interest in signing Paris Saint-Germain forward Mbappe, whose current contract expires at the end of the season. The Spanish side are free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with Mbappe, though the Frenchman has failed to provide a definitive answer on his future.
Real Madrid have previously tried and failed to bring Mbappe to the club, including an embarrassing situation in 2022, where the forward performed a U-turn on his decision to move to Spain in favour of signing a new contract at PSG.
This week, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi hinted Mbappe could sign another extension in Paris and spoke of the France’s captain’s happiness at the Parc des Princes.
Real Madrid are keen to avoid a repeat situation and have reportedly set a mid-January deadline for a decision from Mbappe.
However, Football Transfers claim that senior figures at Real Madrid believe Napoli frontman Victor Osimhen would represent a ‘better bet’ for the club.
Osimhen has a release clause in his contract worth around £112m and has established himself as one of the best forwards in Europe at Napoli.
The 24-year-old scored 26 league goals last season to win the Capocannoniere award as Serie A’s leading scorer, to fire Napoli to a first Scudetto in 33 years.
Some of ‘the more experienced figures in the Real Madrid boardroom’ believe Osimhen’s profile is better suited to Carlo Ancelotti’s side, with the Nigerian an out-and-out centre-forward.
Osimhen is currently with the Nigeria national team preparing for the Africa Cup of Nations, which begins this weekend.
