Ange Postecoglou believes Radu Dragusin is a ‘good fit’ for Spurs after completing the signing of the centre-back from Genoa.
Spurs beat competition from Bayern Munich and Napoli to land the highly-rated 21-year-old, who has impressed in Serie A this season, ranking second for clearances and leading all defenders for aerial duels won.
The Romanian will add much-needed defensive depth to Postecoglou’s options, with Cristian Romero currently sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Discussing the qualities of the new recruit, Postecoglou said he was confident that Dragusin would be a success at Spurs.
“He is a good fit for us from a football perspective. He has some great attributes as a young player. Once we got down to the real detail for it, I thought he was the best option for us,” Postecoglou said at his pre-match press conference.
“He was our number one target. I like his defence attributes and his physical attributes. We need more than two top centre-backs. He has come to a big club where he knows he has to compete to play. It will benefit the national team.”
Spurs travel to face Manchester United in the Premier League this weekend, an important fixture for both teams in their bid for Champions League qualification.
The latter sit eighth in the table after a challenging campaign to date but Postecoglou is prepared for the best version of the Red Devils this weekend.
“I think you go into these games expecting them to be at their best.
“They’ve been inconsistent, but when they play well they’re still a very very good football side and they’ve certainly got some real quality right throughout their team.
“Particularly in Old Trafford, it’s going to be a difficult game. We’re expecting a tough game, a great challenge for us.”
