Rival clubs have been placed on red-alert amid reports that Newcastle are seeking a replacement for Bruno Guimaraes.
Newcastle are understood to be considering the sale of a leading asset to ease the club’s financial concerns, as the Magpies look to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules. The North-East side recently posted their financial figures for the 2022/23 campaign, at a loss of £73m.
Guimaraes, who has a release clause in the region of £98m, has been mentioned as a potential exit, with several Premier League rivals, including Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool, linked with the Brazil international.
Football.London are reporting that Guimaraes’ suitors have been handed a boost with Newcastle assessing the market for potential replacements.
Newcastle are interested in a deal to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson, according to reports in Italy (TuttoMercatoWeb).
The Magpies have sent scouts to watch Ederson in action in recent weeks, ahead of a potential offer this month. The Italian side are not interested in selling the 24-year-old, though could find offers in excess of £35m difficult to turn down.
Newcastle have also expressed interest in Kalvin Phillips, but need Manchester City to lower their demands to pursue a deal for the out-of-favour England midfielder.
According to AS, Guimaraes’ release clause at Newcastle can be paid in three instalments, increasing the potential options available to the midfielder.
