Jurgen Klopp has given an update on Mohamed Salah’s condition after the Liverpool forward was forced off injured during Egypt’s Africa Cup of Nations clash with Ghana.
Salah was forced off in first-half stoppage time of the 2-2 with Ghana on Thursday evening, after sustaining a hamstring injury.
Club and country are both fearful that the 31-year-old will miss an extended period, with Klopp admitting the issue is ‘definitely something’. However, the German said it is too soon to provide a further update as Egypt continue to assess the forward.
“We don’t know anything about it. I spoke with him last night and how it was. They are doing further assessments now and then we will know more,” Klopp said at his pre-match press conference ahead of facing Bournemouth.
“At that moment he was shocked and couldn’t see why he was hit by something so intense. You have these hamstring injuries in a different way. He felt it and we know how rarely Mo goes off, or needs to go off, so it is definitely something but I don’t have any more information right now.”
Klopp was asked whether Liverpool’s medical staff would travel to the Ivory Coast to conduct their own assessment on Salah’s injury.
“We will see. It depends on the diagnostics. We will have ultrasound and MRI and then we will know what it is and we will see and make plans, but it’s too early [at the moment].”
