Mikel Arteta has ruled out the prospect of Arsenal signing a striker before the January transfer window deadline.
Arsenal have been linked with signing a centre-forward this month as the Gunners look to improve their title chances. Brentford forward Ivan Toney has been named as a potential option, with Bukayo Saka the club’s current leading scorer on just six Premier League goals.
However, speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of facing Crystal Palace this weekend, Arteta has ruled out the arrival of reinforcements before the deadline.
“No. But, first thing, that’s because I love the players that we have,” the Spaniard said.
Arsenal have lost three consecutive games in all competitions and have just one win from seven. That form has seen the Gunners drop to fourth in the Premier League, but Arteta is confident that his team is still ‘capable of big things’ this season.
“We need to get the crowd going but they’ve been exceptional with us. We are recharged, super motivated. We want to attack the second half of the season, we have a lot of ambitions and understand that the team is capable of big things.
“We feel fully recharged. [The break] gave us the opportunity to look at things with perspective. We take positives from the first six months despite recent results.
“You have to look at it objectively so that you can dissect the game and understand what happened. There are things that we can improve and do better. Those marginal gains have to be installed and that is what we have been doing over the last few days.”
