Ronaldo: ‘People considered me lost’ after Man United spell

Cristiano Ronaldo has said he is not surprised by his remarkable goalscoring record in 2023 and insists he still has ‘a lot of possibilities to offer’.

Ronaldo will celebrate his 39th birthday next month but continues to score prolifically in the colours of club and country, having fired 53 goals in all competitions last year.

The Portugal captain signed for AL Nassr from Manchester United last winter and has since scored 44 goals in 50 appearances for the Saudi side.

Ronaldo’s achievements were recognised with a hat-trick of awards at the Globe Soccer Awards this week. The forward won the Best Middle East Player prize, the Maradona Award for the best goalscorer in 2023, and the Fans’ Favourite Player of the Year award.

Speaking in an interview with Record, Ronaldo said he still has plenty to achieve in his career after being doubted following his high-profile exit from Manchester United.

“I’m not surprised of my level as I know that I still have a lot of possibilities to offer,” he said.

“I know that I can provide a lot of goals for Al Nassr and the national team, so it was incredible on a personal level to score 54 goals.

“If you go back and see what happened at Manchester United and the national team, people actually considered me lost…

“But the truth is that I focused and had a great period at Al Nassr, that’s why I scored 54 goals.”
