Manchester United are aiming to raise in excess of £100m from a summer fire sale of unwanted players.
Erik ten Hag is planning a clear-out of his squad as the Dutchman’s rebuild at Old Trafford accelerates, with hopes of raising significant funds to ease the club’s Profit and Sustainability concerns and re-invest.
Jadon Sancho looks set to headline the departures after joining Borussia Dortmund on loan this month.
The winger was moved on after a fallout with Ten Hag this season and has made an immediate impact with two assists in two games for Dortmund. United will hope to recoup a sizeable fee for a player who cost £72.9m when signing from Dortmund in 2021.
A decision will also be made on Mason Greenwood’s future. The 22-year-old, who has not played for Manchester United since January 2022 due to off-field issues, has impressed on loan at Getafe this season to spark speculation of interest from Barcelona.
Greenwood’s permanent sale would be a big boost to the club’s finances, given his status as an academy product and any funds received would count as 100% profit on the balance sheet. The same is also true of Scott McTominay, who the Red Devils will listen to suitable offers for in the summer.
Elsewhere, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Casemiro could leave should attractive offers arrive, while the recent loan exits of Hannibal Mejbri and Alvaro Fernandez to Sevilla and Benfica respectively contain clauses to make those transfers permanent.
