Ange Postecoglou has said Spurs must adjust their game plan when facing Manchester City in the FA Cup on Friday night.
The North Londoners host the holders in the FA Cup fourth round tomorrow, as two of the tournament favourites go head-to-head.
Spurs have won plaudits for their adventurous brand of football under Postecoglou this season, but the Australian said adjustments must be made when facing a side of City’s quality.
“You respect that you are playing a very, very good opponent. When you are playing an opponent of the calibre of Manchester City, whether you want to or not, your game has to adjust,” Postecoglou said at his pre-match press conference.
“We know there will be times when we are under stress and times when we are out possessed. Irrespective of your strategy that is going to happen. From our possession we are going to continue pressing on and being what we want to be. Your biggest test is when you play the best. That’s not just in terms of the result, but in terms of how we approach it.”
On starting the tie as slight underdogs, Postecoglou said: “If you go into any cup tie thinking you have any advantage, whether that’s against a team that is in a lower division or the best team in the world, you shouldn’t have a different outlook to it because the beauty of cups is the upsets they produce.
“For me, it doesn’t matter who we play. Every cup game is that there is only one result that helps you progress, and that’s a win, and that’s what we are going to try and do.”
