Manchester United have been dealt a major blow after the extent of the injury to Lisandro Martinez was confirmed by the club.
The centre-back only recently returned to action after recovering from a foot issue that sidelined him for four months.
The 26-year-old was forced off during the second half of Sunday’s 3-0 win over West Ham United at Old Trafford with an apparent knee injury.
Martinez joins four other members of the Man United first team on the treatment table. Here is what we know about the club’s injured quintet and when they can be expected to make a return.
Latest Man Utd injury news and possible return dates:
Lisandro Martinez
After buckling under the weight of West Ham defender Vladimir Coufal, a scan revealed that Martinez has sustained an injury to the medial collateral ligament in his knee. The club say they expect him to be out for eight weeks at minimum.
Anthony Martial
The French forward underwent surgery on a groin problem in January. He could return in late March or early April.
Tyrell Malacia
The Dutch left-back hasn’t played a minute this season after undergoing surgery on his knee in the summer. A setback in his recovery meant he required further surgery, but he is slated for a possible return to action this month.
Mason Mount
The former Chelsea midfielder has endured an injury-riddled first campaign for the Red Devils. Mount sustained a hamstring injury in the second game of the season before injuring his calf while training in November. Erik ten Hag confirmed at the end of January that he has returned to training on the grass, but it could be the end of February before he plays again for the first team.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka
The right-back missed the wins over Wolves and West Ham with a leg injury, but Ten Hag says he “could be available for Sunday” when they face Aston Villa away.
