Chelsea to reject Colwill approaches amid Liverpool and PSG interest

Chelsea will turn down all approaches for Levi Colwil amid interest in the centre-back from Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.

Colwill has cemented his place in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans this season and the performances of the 20-year-old have earned admirers from across Europe. Liverpool registered an interest in signing Colwill last summer after the defender’s return to Chelsea from a loan spell at Brighton.

Brighton also saw a club-record bid of £30m rejected as the Seagulls sought to sign the centre-back permanently and Colwill instead signed a new long-term deal at Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool remain interested in Colwill as the Reds look to sign a central defender in the summer, with Joel Matip expected to leave Anfield when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The Merseysiders have been joined in their pursuit by Paris Saint-Germain, with each monitoring Chelsea’s financial situation.

The west Londoners could be forced to cash-in on players in a bid to balance the books, following their record-breaking spending in recent transfer windows. Colwill’s sale would count as complete profit given his status as an academy product, with Trevoh Chalobah, Ian Maatsen, Armando Broja and Conor Gallagher also linked with leaving Stamford Bridge.

However, the Evening Standard are reporting that Chelsea have no plans to sell Colwill, who is viewed as part of the club’s long-term future.

The defender formed part of the England u-21 side that won the European Championship without conceding a goal last summer and has since graduated into the senior side. He has made 29 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea this season.
