Unai Emery has said Aston Villa are ready to challenge on two fronts ahead of the club’s European showdown with Ajax.
Villa continued their push for Champions League qualification with an entertaining 4-2 win over Nottingham Forest at the weekend, a result which leaves The Villans five points clear of fifth-placed Tottenham, having played a game more.
Emery’s side are also preparing for a glamour tie with four-time European champions Ajax in the Europa Conference League last 16, after being drawn to face the Dutch side this week.
The first leg will take place in Amsterdam on March 7 and Emery has said his squad are ‘ready’ to challenge on both fronts across the run-in.
“We have players and every player has to be ready,” Emery said in his post-match press conference (via BirminghamLive).
“They have to be in practice working hard to wait for their opportunity. Even when we decided to sign Morgan, bring back Kaine Kesler-Hayden, they have to be ready. Chambers too.
“We will play against Ajax and we are excited to get something in Europe. We have players more experienced playing three matches in the week. We will do it in two weeks again playing this amount of matches.
“If the players are ready to play then we can play three matches in a week with some players and maybe others. We always want to get the performance as best as possible.”
