Caoimhin Kelleher called Liverpool’s Carabao Cup final win over Chelsea ‘the moments you dream about’ as the Reds secured silverware at Wembley.
Virgil van Dijk’s extra-time goal earned Liverpool a record-extending 10th League Cup title, as the Dutchman rose in the 118th minute to head home from Kostas Tsimikas’ corner.
Despite a goalless game, the final was not short of action with both teams missing good chances in an entertaining decider. Kelleher was key to Liverpool’s clean sheet as the 25-year-old made superb saves from Cole Palmer and Conor Gallagher, with the first a brilliant reaction stop from close range, before thwarting the latter one-against-one.
For Kelleher, it was another impressive final appearance having starred in Liverpool’s Carabao Cup final win over the same opposition in 2022.
“These are the moments you dream about. It’s better for the heart than penalties! Another amazing moment for me, I’m delighted,” the Ireland international told Sky Sports.
“We won’t get ahead of ourselves, but this is great for momentum. We are in a good place right now.”
Asked to comment on the performance of man of the match and goalscorer Van Dijk, Kelleher added: “He’s unbelievable, always fit, always showing up for us. He is pushing us on to win more trophies.”
