Guardiola says Man City success ‘taken for granted’

Pep Guardiola believes the success of Manchester City is ‘taken for granted’ after his team beat Copenhagen 3-1 to reach the Champions League quarter-finals.

City booked their place in the competition’s last eight for the seventh successive season as goals from Julian Alvarez, Manuel Akanji and Erling Haaland earned a comfortable win over the Danish side at the Etihad.

Guardiola’s side have now won 10 consecutive games in the Champions League, becoming the first English team to achieve that feat, and remain in contention to defend their Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League treble won last season.

The Spaniard was pleased to see his side progress and insists City’s success should not be taken for granted, given how ‘difficult’ each competition is.

“For me, every time we get through in the group stages ‘wow’ because I know how difficult it is. I know how difficult it is,” he said.

“Everything is difficult. The Premier League is difficult. The FA Cup is difficult.

“People take it for granted now. It’s good but we know internally, the manager and the players, that everything is difficult.

“This is what I want my club to feel, from the hierarchy, the people working here, the players – that everything is complicated.

“Still we are there in all competitions. It’s really good.”
