Klopp says ‘settled’ Nunez ‘a threat all the time’ for Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has said Darwin Nunez has ‘settled’ at Liverpool and has called the forward ‘a threat all the time’.

Nunez scored twice as Liverpool took control of their Europa League last-16 clash with a 5-1 win at Sparta Prague, continuing an encouraging second season in English football for the 24-year-old.

The Uruguay international has scored 16 goals and provided 11 assists in all competitions for the Reds, following a mixed debut campaign after arriving from Benfica in a £64m deal.

Nunez’s finishing has been criticised in some sections, but Klopp has backed the forward to continue his recent improvement. He said the striker has ‘quality coming out of his ears’ after one of his best spells since signing for the Merseysiders.

“He had absolutely more than an OK first season but he had to adapt, that’s done, and he is settled in the middle of the team,” Klopp said at his post-match press conference.

“He loves to play for this team together with these boys and has quality coming out of his ears, to be honest.

“Is he at his absolute peak in general? Not now for us. But can he develop? Yes. Is he a threat all the time? Yes.”

Liverpool return to Premier League action on Sunday when the Reds host title rivals Manchester City at Anfield.
