Arsenal hero Kai Havertz believes the three points they picked up against Brentford on Saturday will be “so important” in the Premier League title race.
Declan Rice continued his streak of good form by opening the scoring for the Gunners in the 19th minute, but the Bees snatched an equaliser on the stroke of halftime at the Emirates Stadium.
The hosts left it late to claim victory as Havertz found the net for the fourth successive game to take the club to the top of the table.
Arsenal are now one point ahead of Liverpool and two ahead of Manchester City, but the German playmaker says they can only focus on what they do as the title race heats up.
“Massive win for us,” Havertz told Sky Sports. “These points were so important for us and you could see that in the second half. We didn’t play our best in the first half but it’s even better to win it this way.
“It’s always nice to have three points in the bag. We talked a lot about this in the dressing room. We want to focus on ourselves because we cannot change what the other teams are doing. We go into the other competition in the week and hopefully it’s a good night for us.”
It seemed like it was not going to be Arsenal’s night after Aaron Ramsdale was caught in possession by Yoane Wissa for Brentford’s goal.
“It wasn’t nice especially after conceding so close to the whistle,” Havertz admitted. “We spoke to each other and wanted to turn it around. Mistakes are part o f the game. I have made mistakes that lead to goals. We showed a good mentality from the first second of the second half.”
