Cole Palmer sends defiant message to Chelsea doubters after Newcastle win

Cole Palmer insists that Chelsea are “only going to get better” after a disappointing Premier League campaign.

The former Manchester City player starred on Monday Night Football as the Blues dispatched Newcastle United with a 3-2 win in one of their better performances of the season.

Despite spending over £435 million on new signings last summer, the team have failed to impress on the pitch under manager Mauricio Pochettino this season.

Chelsea sit 11th in the standings after 27 games, 16 points off the top four, and look unlikely to qualify for Europe, especially after losing the League Cup final to Liverpool last month.

Considering they are also at risk of being sanctioned by the Premier League next season if they do not improve on the Financial Fair Play front, the outlook is relatively bleak for the west London outfit – but Palmer is adamant they will come good eventually.

“I think there’s so much talent at Chelsea,” he told Sky Sports. “The fans don’t see it, you guys don’t see it. But I think the way that the manager works us on the training pitch, it is only going to get better.

“If not next season, the season after. It’s a project, everyone is young and trying to play well. You will see it sooner or later.

“We’ve had some difficult results, obviously the cup final against Liverpool, Wolves and many games.

“To get points is vital for us. We showed a bit of passion and had the courage to play because that’s what we need as a young team.

“We are going to make mistakes, everybody is going to make mistakes, it’s just about moving onto the next one.”
