Aston Villa star open to transfer to ‘Big Six’ club

Leon Bailey has hinted that he would be open to leaving Aston Villa for one of the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’.

Bailey has been an integral figure in Aston Villa’s push for a top-four finish and Champions League qualification, scoring eight times and providing a further eight assists in the Premier League so far this season.

After a mixed first two campaigns in English football, the Jamaica international has begun to fulfil the potential he first showed at Bayer Leverkusen.

Bailey has been one of the most effective players in the Premier League this season, ranking second for assists per 90 minutes and third for non-penalty goals and assists per 90 minutes in 2023/24.

The 26-year-old said he is happy to be representing Jamaica in European football and believes a move to one of the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ would ‘shine more light’ on his home nation.

“You have big teams in England, they call themselves the big six. The Arsenals and the Chelseas,” Bailey told the Let’s Be Honest Podcast.

“It has always been my dream to play in the Premier League and I am right now.

“Who wouldn’t want to go to a massive team? Especially coming out of Jamaica, do you know how big that is for the country? Especially being who I am as well.

“It would shine more light and that has been my focus whenever overseas. It is to use my platform to be able to shine light on the country and the young talents. It’s difficult for us Jamaicans to even make it to Europe.”
