Wolves manager Gary O’Neil has said there is no truth in rumours linking him with a coaching role at Manchester United.
O’Neil has been named as a potential target for Manchester United’s new board as the Red Devils plan a potential restructure of their coaching staff.
Erik ten Hag’s position is uncertain following a disappointing campaign, with the club currently sixth in the Premier League table and at risk of missing out on Champions League qualification.
O’Neil’s work at Wolves, who are in contention for European qualification this season, has seen his name circulated for a potential role in a new set-up, alongside England manager Gareth Southgate.
However, the 40-year-old has said there is no truth in the speculation despite being ‘honoured’ to have been linked with the role.
“There’s no truth in it, I don’t know where it came from,” he told a pre-match press conference ahead of Wolves’ clash with Aston Villa this weekend.
“Growing up, Liverpool and Manchester United always felt special so it’s an honour to be linked [to them], even if there’s no truth in it.
“All of my focus is on the three-game Premier League week and how we try to help the group. I love it here. I’m a head coach, I’m always going to be a head coach.”
O’Neil also provided an update on Pedro Neto’s future and said the Wolves winger is hoping to return in time to feature for Portugal at Euro 2024.
“I think he’ll be back in around the end of the season, it may be a few weeks before. He has a big summer with the Euros that he’s keen to get back for.
“We won’t let the fixture list dictate when he’s back. He’s working very hard and is keen to get back as quickly as possible.”
