Bayer Leverkusen are ready to rivals Premier League clubs in the race to sign Leeds winger Crysencio Summerville.
Xabi Alonso’s team are one win from securing a first-ever Bundesliga crown, though the Spaniard is already looking at ways to improve his team for next season. Additional options in the forward line are desired and Summerville is understood to be on Leverkusen’s list of options.
The Dutch winger has been arguably the Championship’s leading light this season, scoring 17 goals and providing eight assists as Leeds push for an instant promotion back into the Premier League.
His performances for Daniel Farke’s team have alerted the attention of top-flight clubs with Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham having all checked in on the progress of the 22-year-old. German publication Bild are reporting that Leverkusen are ready to compete for his signature in a deal that could cost in excess of £25m.
Summerville is contracted to Elland Road until 2026, though a failure to secure promotion this season is likely to lead to an exit. Leeds are third in the Championship, a point behind Leicester and Ipswich in the automatic promotion places.
Leverkusen have had success in signing young talent from British football in recent windows. Jeremie Frimpong has developed into one of Europe’s most effective wing-backs since arriving from Celtic in 2021, while the Bundesliga league leaders signed Nathan Tella from Southampton last summer.
Despite struggling for a regular role in Alonso’s side, the latter has been an effective contributor from the bench and has averaged a goal or assist every 111 minutes in the Bundesliga and Europa League this season.
