Robertson says struggling Liverpool forwards have to do better

Andy Robertson has said Liverpool are struggling at both ends of the pitch and admits the Reds forward line has ‘to do better’ after a wasteful performance in defeat to Crystal Palace.

Liverpool’s hopes of winning the Premier League suffered a huge setback after losing 1-0 to Crystal Palace on Sunday, as Jurgen Klopp’s side were beaten at Anfield for the second successive game in all competitions.

The Merseysiders had not lost a Premier League home game since October 2022 but were punished for missing a catalogue of clear-cut chances, as Eberechi Eze’s early goal handed the visitors a shock win.

It continued a concerning recent trend for Liverpool, who have seen their season threaten to unravel in recent weeks. After dominating in a draw at Manchester United last weekend, the Reds suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to Atalanta in the Europa League on Thursday, before losing to Palace.

“It’s been the story of the last few games and that’s why we have been punished in these games,” Liverpool left-back Robertson said to Sky Sports.

“We are struggling to keep clean sheets right now. I don’t know how many we have had in the last 10 or 15 games but it won’t be many. When you do that you have to take chances. As simple as that.

“The boys in front of goal have to do better. But the boys at the back, as defensive unit as a whole, we have to do better. Which isn’t great thing for success So frustrating today. So many chances. First half I thought we were poor and they were in top and could have been more than 1-0 up. Second half we had enough chances to win two or three games.”
