Chelsea are the latest Premier League club to track the progress of Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners ahead of a summer transfer.
Koopmeiners has been a shining light in Gian Piero Gasperini’s impressive Atalanta outfit but is keen on a new challenge after three seasons in Italy. Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham have all monitored the progress of the Netherlands international, who has scored 13 goals in all competitions this season.
The 26-year-old starred as Atalanta thrashed Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield in the Europa League last week and has openly discussed the prospect of a move to English football in recent weeks.
“Last year there was concrete interest from Napoli and the clubs ultimately negotiated with each other without results,” he told De Telegraaf.
“I have indicated to Atalanta that I want to make a move next summer. But there must be something very nice to exchange for that for Atalanta.
“My girlfriend and I are having a great time in Italy but I can endure the rain for some clubs in England. I hope there will be great options that I can think about.
“And then I hope that Atalanta receives a nice amount for me, because I had a wonderful time there.
“I would be lying if I said that I did not hear the alleged interest from Juventus and Premier League clubs. Of course I read that too or get it forwarded to me.”
Sportmediaset are reporting that Chelsea have now joined the growing list of clubs interested in a deal, that could cost in excess of €40m.
The high-profile additions of Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez have flattered to deceive at Stamford Bridge, while Conor Gallagher continues to be linked with an exit. The latter will enter the final 12 months of his contract in west London in the summer and Tottenham have been credited with strong interest in signing the England midfielder.
Gallagher is one of several academy graduates who could be moved on at the end of the campaign, as the Blues look to combat profit and sustainability concerns.
