Jose Mourinho has dismissed suggestions he could become Newcastle’s next manager and insists he’s staying at Roma.
Mourinho has been linked with the vacant role at Newcastle as the club’s new ownership seek a marquee manager, after Steve Bruce left his position in charge by ‘mutual consent’ on Wednesday.
Mourinho was asked about the role at St James’ Park ahead of Roma’s Europa Conference League game against Bodø/Glimt on Thursday evening, but shot down suggestions he could return to the Premier League – insisting that he remains fully focused on his role with the Italian side.
“Newcastle job? I’ve decided to stay, I’m not leaving,” he at his pre-match press conference.
“I signed for a three-year project with Roma and I’m not going to leave my players.”
Mourinho was appointed as Roma manager during the summer after leaving Tottenham, with the Serie A side currently fourth in Italy’s top division after winning five and losing three of their opening eight fixtures.
