Aston Villa have reportedly tied Unai Emery down to a new contract.
The Spaniard has been a massive success since leaving Villareal to replace Steven Gerrard in the dugout in October 2022.
Villa are sitting fourth in the Premier League table with four games to go, putting them on the verge of qualifying for the Uefa Champions League. They are also in the semi-finals of the Uefa Conference League.
Emery boasts the best win percentage of any manager in the club’s history, coming out victorious in over 57 percent of his matches in charge.
That is exactly why the Villans have moved to hand him a new deal, extending his current deal as head coach until 2027, according to The Athletic.
David Ornstein reports that “Villa intend to sit down with Emery this summer and prolong his terms even further”.
The report adds that club owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens are “certain” Emery can become their version of Sir Alex Ferguson, the legendary former Manchester United manager who won 13 Premier League titles and the Champions League twice while at Old Trafford.
The new contract will also ward off potential suitors for their coveted head coach, who has been linked with vacancies Elsewhere. A host of top clubs around Europe, including Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, are on the lookout for a new manager in the summer, while clubs such as Chelsea and Manchester United could be doing the same.
Emery had been tipped by various pundits to take on the Liverpool job after Jurgen Klopp leaves in the summer, but this new deal will put any potential move to bed.
